Multi-room video distribution systems have been on the market for 10’s of years and advances in this technology has been somewhat stagnated until the entry of some of the then smaller HD distribution systems to support the ever growing commercial high definition video market. Virani Tech has had the luxury of working with a number of vendors and devices to test such systems in both business and in the home with mixed results until now.
HDANYWHERE have proved key to the growth of this this market and in recent years the advances in technology. As of recent, a number of products aimed a distributing 4k 10bit content across up to 100 meters of Cat6 infrastructure cabling to circa 8 displays from an all important multi array of sources have flooded the market. However these are still relatively invisible from the average consumer. We believe with the increasing interest in smart homes, this is due to change but as of yet these are still premium products.
As with any area of our lives today, influences from changes in lifestyle and somewhat “Keeping up with the Jones’s” has seen an influx in the number of home implementation of such devices to support the disappearance of unsightly media boxes from our now heavily minimalist living rooms, ensuring the all important safety from removing trailing cables and “wife-approval” factor due to simplicity and cleanliness of installation. In short such systems allow media hardware including amplifiers, media streamers such as fire TV or Apple TV, Blu-Ray players and games consoles to be neaty hidden in another room or under stairs cupboard; all important, “out of sight, out of mind”.
How is it different from Sky Q and Virgin Media?
Many people have asked as the question; “I have Sky’s multi-room, why do I need this?”. One may argue they are one in the same thing, however these products are not truely designed to replace the users ability to watch two channels in two or more different rooms but improve the end-user experience allowing them access to a pletoria of options no matter their location in the building.
Matrix distribution systems allow us to connect a number of single sources and send them to all connected screens in up to 4k. As an example this allowing the connectivity of 2 x sky boxes, 1 Apple TV, 1 Personal Computer, 1 x Bluray Player, 1 x Game Console, 1 x CCTV monitoring system and 1 x Amazon FireTV in one central location, allowing all screens to view either the same video source or one of the many on offer at any one time. Technology advances in IR-over-IP allow remote control access for any one of these devices away from the central location also, so the user experience is as the manufacturer intended.
Do I need it?
We don’t believe anyone actually requires any technology on the market today to fulfill their lives, however wanting it and wanting to centralize and aid simplicity in your life are two different questions that only you as the end-user can answer. We at Virani Tech are definitely sold on the idea.
